Fire Crews On The Pipeline And Haywire Fires Worked Hard Overnight To Construct Fire Lines And Protect Vital Areas

Fire managers on the Pipeline and Haywire fires with warm, dry and breezy conditions, fire activity picked up today. Constructed firelines held with little growth on the fires overnight. Hot dry weather continues to contribute to the critically dry fuels. Winds will carry smoke to the northeast impacting homesteads north and east of Flagstaff including the Navajo Nation. On the Pipeline Fire, crews continued to construct fireline along the western flank of the fire yesterday and through the night. Burning operations on the northeast edge of the fire helped reduce available fuels. On the Haywire Fire, crews continued to construct fireline along the southern flank of the fire yesterday and through the night. Burning operations on the east edge of the fire helped reduce available fuels. There are 740 personnel total working both fires. Highway 89 reopened to both north and southbound traffic this morning. The Great Basin Type 1 team has taken over management of the fires. For fire information, call (928) 421-3393.
