Fire And Explosions Shook East Flagstaff Saturday

Several fire crews were called to an area of East Flagstaff Saturday afternoon after explosions were heard and a fire started at a small business near the Flagstaff Autoplex. Fire officials say the fire was at Maclin Truck and Trailer on the 53-hundred block of North Dodge Avenue. The call started out with one engine and quickly went to a first alarm fire at around 2:30 p.m. Officials say a trash truck on the property may have been the cause of the fire, but the business itself was not damaged. Because of the conditions, the original fire spawned into four fires and at one time came close to large propane tanks. Firefighters were able to put that fire out before it reached the tanks. Other vehicles on the property were also damaged by the blaze. Fire officials say explosions heard at the scene were truck tires exploding from the fire. Flagstaff Police blocked off traffic at Empire and Highway 89 and surrounding areas until the fire was contained. Fire crews from both Flagstaff Fire and Summit Fire and Medical worked the fire. There were no injuries and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
