The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has authorized the use of federal funds to assist the state of Arizona to combat the Museum Fire. The state submitted the request Monday. At the time of the request, the fire was threatening 36-hundred homes in and around Flagstaff, with 90-percent of the homes as primary residences. The fire was also a threat to 180 businesses, the Flagstaff water plant and multiple fire stations and municipal buildings, according to FEMA. Administrators determined the fire threatened such destruction as would constitute a major disaster. Funds will be made available to the state immediately.
