FBI Phoenix Alerting Arizona Residents Of Confidence Fraud And Romance Scams

FBI Phoenix is alerting and educating the public on romance scams, or confidence fraud, that has reportedly affected over 650 Arizona victims. These scams occur when a victim believes they are in a relationship with the suspect, whether that be family, friendly, or romantic, and are further tricked into sending money, bank account information, or highly-valued items. In 2021, Arizona victims reported a loss of over $20-million in connection with confidence fraud scams, which is a 65-percent increase from last year. The FBI reminds the public to research the person’s photos and social media profiles to confirm the identity and to never provide personal or financial information to someone online. If you or someone you know has been involved in confidence fraud or a romance scam, report the incident to your financial institution and then contact FBI Phoenix at (623)-466-1999.
