Environmental groups are suing the federal government in an effort to bring down the Glen Canyon Dam along the Colorado River. The lawsuit was filed by the groups “Save the Colorado,” “The Center for Biological Diversity,” and “Living Rivers.” The lawsuit says the Bureau of Reclamation ignored climate science when it approved a 20-year operating plan for the dam. The dam created Lake Powell, which is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the country. The suit lists as one of the options, the removal of the dam altogether. The bureau says that option wouldn’t comply with water delivery requirements and other federal regulations regarding Colorado River water. The dam was completed in 1966 and it stands 710 feet tall.
