Emergency responders rescue a driver on top of their vehicle after being swept away by flood waters in a creek near McGuireville Christmas Eve. Units from Copper Canyon Fire and Medical were called to the area of Kimberlys Way and Cornville Road at around 6:30 p.m. When first units arrived, they found a small passenger vehicle with driver on the roof about 300-feet from the creek crossing in fast moving water. Additional units were dispatched from Copper Canyon and Verde Valley fire departments to assist in the rescue. Crews were able to contact the person by phone to make sure they were not injured and to give instructions to stay on the vehicle until rescuers were able to get there. After formulating several plans, crews were able to make access to the vehicle and successfully rescue the driver. The person was examined by EMS prior to being released to YCSO deputies. It’s just another reminder to not enter flooded washes, creeks or streams, anytime during the year. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
