Wanted Drug Trafficking Suspect Fatally Shot By Authorities Wednesday In Prescott

A drug trafficking suspect, who was fatally shot by authorities Wednesday afternoon in Prescott, has been identified. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say PANT detectives, along with the YCSO Quick Response Team served an arrest warrant at a home located off Prescott East Highway in Castle Canyon Mesa at around 3 p.m. During the attempt, 45-year-old Aaron Richard Nelson threatened the lives of the detectives on the scene, prompting a YCSO detective and a Prescott police officer to use lethal force to stop the threat. Nelson was wanted under a federal warrant from this month and a state of Arizona warrant from March, for drug and fentanyl trafficking offenses. All law enforcement officers and deputies on the scene were uninjured. Emergency crews conducted life saving measures on Nelson, but he died at the scene. The incident will be investigated by the Department of Public Safety’s Special Investigation Unit.
