A choice has been made regarding the next president of Northern Arizona University. The Arizona Board of Regents announced Thursday that Dr. Jose Luis Cruz has been named as the finalist to become the 17th president of NAU. Regents chair Larry Penley says “Dr. Cruz has an extraordinary record of academic leadership, and I am confident he is the right leader to build on NAU’s success and ensure a bold and boundless future for this beloved and historic university.” Cruz is currently the executive vice chancellor and university provost at The City University of New York. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a patented inventor and a National Science Foundation Career Award recipient. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and his doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
