DPS Seized Over 50 Pounds of Fentanyl Pills During A Traffic Stop In Anthem

Arizona Department of Public Safety state troopers recently seized 54 pounds of fentanyl pills in Anthem that were en route to Denver, Colorado. Back on June 5th, troopers made a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for moving and equipment violations. The driver of the vehicle, Omar Arias, drove away resulting in a chase on northbound Interstate-17. Eventually, the driver stopped at milepost 254 and was detained. Inside the car, troopers discovered 54 pounds of fentanyl pills and two-and-a-half pounds of methamphetamine. Arias was booked into Yavapai County Jail for charges including unlawful flight from law enforcement, possession and transportation of a narcotic drug for sale, possession and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Roughly six out of every ten fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills contain a potentially lethal dose. Officials for the Arizona Department of Public Safety ask people to remind their loved ones, especially teenagers, about the dangers of fentanyl.
