The demolition of the Navajo Generating Station in Page continues. Friday morning, crews took down the three smokestacks that stood out at the home of the now former power plant. The former coal-fired plant closed for good in November of 2019. Four of the five utilities that owned the plant near Page, decided to pull out of owning it in 2017. One of the four, SRP, says their decision was because the cost of electricity from the coal-burning plant was more expensive than power generated by burning natural gas. Demolition and decommissioning the plant will run until 2021.
