A brush fire briefly threatened the Phoenix Cement Plant in Clarkdale yesterday. The fire was reported at around 1:50 p.m. and was burning along railroad tracks at the plant. Crews from the Prescott National Forest and the Verde Valley Fire District arrived and were able to contain the fire at around 3 p.m. The blaze was down in a ravine and smoke was seen in the area. About 80 firefighters and 30 units were used to contain the fire to eight acres. The cause of the blaze is not known.
