The Creosote Fire closed Interstate-17 north of Camp Verde for hours, and caused the evacuations of residents of Rimrock Friday afternoon. The fire closed I-17 in both directions for about two hours, but eventually reopened. The Creosote Fire burned 124 acres, but no structures were damaged or destroyed. Rimrock residents were given the “Go” order and a shelter was set up at Beaver Creek School. However, after about two hours residents were allowed to return to their homes. The cause of the fire is unknown. Conditions are warm and dry along Interstate-17. If you are traveling, make sure to not toss cigarettes out of the window and make sure chains don’t drag on the highway. Those are the leading causes of brush fires along Arizona’s highways.
