Numbers on the Navajo Nation continue to go up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health officials say there were 76 new cases Wednesday with one more death. The total number of cases on the reservation now sits at 1,282 with 49 deaths. Of the confirmed cases, 342 are in Navajo County, 260 are in Apache County and 222 in Coconino County. The Navajo Nation extended the state of emergency and closure of government offices until May 17th. President Jonathan Nez said Wednesday “Some states are beginning to consider loosening restrictions, but not the Navajo Nation.” He added, “we are relying on the health care experts and the facts as we continue the fight against COVID-19.”
