Current Flagstaff City Councilmember Jim McCarthy announced Monday that he’s running for re-election in 2020. McCarthy was elected to council in 2016 after serving six years on the Flagstaff Planning and Zoning Commission and five years on the Water Commission. McCarthy finished second in the race for three city council seats behind Jamie Whelean and ahead of Charlie Odegaard. McCarthy said of his decision to run that “guiding a city like ours takes experience, foresight and a Flagstaff sense of values.” He added, “for three years on council, I’ve experienced the complex dynamics of overseeing this wonderful city.” McCarthy’s decision to run makes seven people who have announced their intentions to run for three seats on the Flagstaff City Council in 2020.
