A Cottonwood teen, who was arrested on charges of threatening people with a gun at a party recently, will be tried as an adult. Deputies were called to the home in the 27-hundred block of South Rio Verde in Cottonwood last Saturday at around 10:45 p.m. Officials say 17-year-old Jaiden Mayes of Cottonwood hadn’t been invited to the party and was confronted by several people about his age and drinking. Mayes “swept” the room with the handgun in the presence of ten adults and two kids. Before he left, he hit a person in the head with the gun. When deputies found the Mayes, he claimed the weapon he used was a BB gun. Upon a search of his room, deputies found .357 rounds, but that pistol was never located. He has been booked on 12 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, misconduct with a weapon and a minor carrying a firearm. He remains in jail on 50-thousand dollars bond. If anyone has information on the incident, or the whereabouts of the gun, contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
