Residents of Cottonwood are seeing a scam where criminals posing as federal agents are calling people trying to get money. Cottonwood Police say they have received reports where a suspect says he is from Homeland Security, or the FBI and mails them a portfolio outlining what the person one. In one instance, they offered the citizen a brand new Mercedes and five-and-a-half million dollars. All the resident had to do is send them three-thousand dollars. Fortunately the citizen didn’t fall for the scam. Remember: If you receive a phone call requesting your personal information and money in order to receive a large sum of money, it’s a scam. Just hang up the phone. Homeland Security says they know about this scam and says they believe it is originating overseas.
