Cottonwood Police Warn Of Scammers Trying To Benefit Off Officers Death

The Cottonwood Police Department says scammers are trying to benefit off the tragic loss of Commander Jody Makuch last week. Authorities say scammers are calling people and asking for their credit card information representing themselves as someone from Law Enforcement Heroes or law enforcement on behalf of Jody Makuch. Law Enforcement Heroes, nor anyone else representing the police department, will call you asking for your credit card information. The department has websites where people can make donations or they can come to the Cottonwood Police Department and make a donation in person at 199 S. Sixth Street in Cottonwood. Makuch was killed last week when he was riding his motorcycle and collided head-on with an alleged drunk driver. His funeral will be held on September 18th at Verde Community Church at 2 p.m. The funeral is open to the public, however social distancing and masking will be in place. Police are working on setting up a live stream of the event.
