Cottonwood Police, along with help from their K9 “Kratos,” seized over three pounds of black tar heroin during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon. Officers were conducting interdiction operations in the area and pulled over a 1999 Chevy Silverado at around 2:39 p.m. in the area of I-17 and State Route 169. Police arrested 35-year-old Fidel Rivera-Leon from Buckeye for a criminal traffic citation. “Kratos” was then deployed and alerted officers to a spot on the vehicle. Authorities found three pounds and three ounces of black tar heroin, along with a usable amount of marijuana. Investigators estimate the drugs have a street value of $221-thousand dollars. Rivera-Leon was booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center on drug charges and remains in jail on $150-thousand dollars cash bond. The case remains under investigation.
