A Suspect In A Hit And Run Accident In Cottonwood Has Been Arrested

Cottonwood Police have captured a suspect wanted in a hit and run accident in last Monday. Police responded to the intersection of North Willard Street and North Main Street at around 8:30 for an accident between a vehicle and a bicycle. Witnesses reportedly saw a dark-colored pickup truck hitting the bicyclist, while both were headed southbound in the 700 block of North Main Street, and leaving the scene. The suspect truck was later found in a nearby alley without the driver. Based on witnesses and video surveillance, the suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Brandon Mackinnon from Cottonwood. The bicyclist is a 65-year-old man, who was transported to Verde Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police received a tip on Mackinnon’s wherebouts Friday afternoon. Officers went to the location in the 500-block of East State Route 89A. When they arrived Good Samaritans had Mackinnon pinned to the ground so he couldn’t leave. He was taken into custody and booked on charges related to the incident. Mackinnon is in the Yavapai County Jail on $25-thousand bond.
