Law enforcement officials served a search warrant Wednesday morning in Camp Verde in an attempt to find 34-year-old Michael Wayne Dunegan. Cottonwood Police have been investigating a pair of assaults involving Dunegan since September. One of the assaults led to serious injuries to an adult female. Both assaults happened at a Cottonwood bar. One of the assaults spilled out into Main Street where Michael proceeded to kick a female passenger off a motorcycle driving down the road. The action caused the woman and another person to lose control of the motorcycle and crash. Dunegan and three others surrounded the victim. The person gave verbal commands to Dunegan to back off and ultimately the victim fired multiple shots from his handgun in self-defense. The action caused Dunegan and the other suspects to leave the area. The three others were juveniles and have since been located and arrested. After Wednesday morning’s warrant and search, Dunegan was located and arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including aggravated assault, assault, false reporting, disorderly conduct, trespassing and participating in or assisting a criminal street gang. He has been booked into the Yavapai County Jail.
