Cottonwood Man Arrested After He Eludes Police As They Try To Pull Him Over New Year’s Eve

A Cottonwood man was arrested after he drove away from police during a traffic stop New Year’s Eve. Officers attempted to pull over Modou Mbye at around 8 p.m. in the 400 block of South Main Street in Cottonwood. Officers activated their lights, but Mbye, driving a white 1991 Ford SUV, refused to stop. The pursuit ended on a side street in Cottonwood where Mbye was arrested without incident. Officials say Mbye was under the influence of alcohol and evidence at the scene supported an extreme DUI charge. He was taken to the Yavapai County Detention Center and booked on Extreme DUI, Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement and Possession of an Open Container in a Vehicle.
