Construction Of The New Killip Elementary School Is Officially Underway

Construction of the new Killip Elementary School is officially underway after a groundbreaking ceremony Monday afternoon at the school. The current school is 72-years-old and instead of spending millions to fix it, the Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board decided back in November to use funds from the 2018 bond measure to build a new one. The cost will be $19-million dollars. Killip Principal Joe Gutierrez says “The Killip students, families, faculty, and Sunnyside community are very appreciative and thankful to have the opportunity to continue to educate our students in a state-of-the-art facility, where we will be able to continue our journey in providing our students with a 21st Century STEM learning experience.” He adds, “as a Community Learning Center, our goal is to serve our community, and be a “place to learn” for everyone who enters our doors.” The school will be ready for new students by the fall of 2022.
