The Coconino Panthers move to 3-0 on the season after a 77-12 trouncing of the Cortez Colts at Cromer Stadium Friday night. Zach Bennett scored six touchdowns, five on the ground to lead Coconino. Bailey McCauslin added three touchdowns for Coconino. The 77 points scored were the most in Coconino High School football history. Cortez scored its first points of the season in the third quarter. The Flagstaff Eagles went to Phoenix and were beaten by Tempe as they fell to the Buffalos, 18-7. In the game, running back Luis Jaramillo left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. There’s no word on his condition. Both teams begin Grand Canyon Region play next week, both on the road. The Flagstaff Eagles will be in Prescott to take on the Prescott Badgers, while Coconino will be in Cottonwood to take on the winless Mingus Marauders.
