The Coconino Panthers scored on their opening drive and kept scoring, including two touchdowns in 12-seconds of the first quarter, as they picked up a big win over the Bradshaw Mountain Bears, in the 4A Grand Canyon Region opener, 41-7 at Cromer Stadium. The Panthers came out strong from the opening kick. Senior running back Bridger French said “we had a chip on our shoulder.” He adds, “they’re the top dogs of the region and we wanted to come out and take that from them.” French carried the load early as at halftime, he had 134 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 221 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns. The Panthers didn’t need to go to the air much. Junior quarterback Colton Buckingham was four-of-six for 50 yards and two touchdowns, both to Noble Young-Blackgoat. Coconino had 275 yards of total offense and held Bradshaw Mountain to 124 yards. Senior running back Gabe Ricketts had 17 carries for 87 yards for the Bears.
