Coconino National Forest Updates Order To Prohibit Camping And Campfires In Areas Near Flagstaff

The Coconino National Forest announced Friday it is prohibiting camping and campfires in the forest around Flagstaff and surrounding communities. Forest Service personnel will begin placing signs that read “No Campfires or Camping” in and around restricted areas to remind the public of the order. Forest officials say prohibiting campfires, and sometimes camping, within these areas are important steps in lowering the number of abandoned campfires and mitigating wildfires close to town. The order also helps reduce the unsanitary conditions found on the forest near town from people illegally using it for residential purposes. Forest officials encourage the public to report illegal activity on the national forest and can do so by calling (928) 527-2511 or the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 774-4523.
