Coconino National Forest To Resume Prescribed Burns Around Flagstaff This Week

Prescribed burn plans are resuming this week on the Coconino National Forest. Monday’s start of a burn on the Horseshoe project, 15 miles north of Flagstaff on the north side of the San Francisco Peaks was pushed back a day and will start Tuesday. Fire managers plan to burn nearly four-thousand acres. The three-day 3Echo burn will begin Wednesday. That burn will be five miles south of Flagstaff between Lower Lake Mary and Mountainaire. Just over 46-hundred acres are set to be treated on that burn. Smoke will be seen from Flagstaff. Then crews will burn next weekend on the Wild Bill project, 14 miles northwest of Flagstaff and about four-and-a-half miles north of Bellemont. Nearly four-thousand acres will be treated on that project. All fires will reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires and subsequent flooding damage to Flagstaff.
