The Coconino National Forest is now offering free-use fuelwood near Shultz Pass, but a permit is needed. The wood is available in an area on Schultz Pass Road near the junction of the road and Elden Springs Road. The wood that is available is part of the leftover material from previous timber operations. The wood is different length and sizes, so use caution when collecting. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for wood pickup. Free-use permits are available by calling the Flagstaff Ranger Station at (928) 526-0866. For more information, go to the Coconino National Forest’s website.
