The Coconino Panthers and Flagstaff Eagles headed west Friday night were not treated well as visitors. The Eagles went into the game trying to snap a four-game losing streak, but couldn’t get going as they fell to the Lee Williams Volunteers 31-6. Since opening the season 4-0, and scoring over 40 points a game for three straight games, the Eagles are 0-5 and have scored just 25 points total. The Coconino Panthers made the long bus trip to Lake Havasu City for a non-region game against the Knights. The two teams traded scores until two costly turnovers late in the first half by the Panthers turned into points, giving the Knights a 34-19 lead at halftime. The other problem was the Panthers couldn’t stop junior running back Isaac Stopke. The back had 25 carries for 315 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Knights to a 48-31 win. Coconino did have a pair of 100 yard backs. Cooper French had 144 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns. Ryker Patten had a season-high 119 yards on 15 carries. Next week the regular season ends for both Coconino and Flagstaff as the two meet in the Skydome for the 53rd Flagstaff City Championship Game. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
