The Coconino Panthers saw their perfect season come to an end Friday night after they fell to the Cactus Cobras, at home, 54-14. The Panthers struggled at the start, and even led the game 14-12 in the first half. They trailed 20-14 at halftime before Cactus scored 33 unanswered points to pull away in the second half. Senior quarterback/running back Beau Gomez led the Panthers with 18 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Cactus held Zach Bennett to 23 carries for 75 yards and a score. The Flagstaff Eagles scored often as they beat the Mingus Marauders, 45-2 in Cottonwood. With the win, the Eagles keep their playoffs chances alive. That sets up next week’s Coconino-Flagstaff game for the 51st time. The Eagles need a win to possibly make the playoffs. Coconino has a playoff spot locked up, but they would love home field in the first round. The game kicks off at 7:30.
