Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search And Rescue Team Saves Man Hiking Mount Elden

Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team was called to rescue a man who was hiking Mount Elden and needed help last Saturday. Officials received a report at around 4 p.m. from hikers who allegedly heard a man yelling for help just above the Christmas Tree Trail. An Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue helicopter was sent to the location to search, but they were unable to locate the man. At around 6:15 p.m., deputies were able to make voice contact with the man, but were still unable to locate him. At this time, it was deemed impossible for the search and rescue helicopter to locate him due to the location, terrain, and nighttime conditions. Search and rescue crews were able to hike down to his location and rescue him at around 11 p.m. Officials say the man didn’t require any medical attention and was given a ride to Flagstaff Shelter Services. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office reminds hikers to plan in advance and be prepared for your trek. Make sure you have a charged cell phone, water, food, warm clothing, flashlights, extra batteries, and emergency shelter-making supplies.
