Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue members responded to a call Friday of two stranded hikers on the San Francisco Peaks. Rescuers received a call at around 5 p.m. about the hikers stuck on the Weatherford Trail near the Humphreys Saddle. The hikers activated the SOS feature on the emergency notification device after finding themselves in a snowfield around four feet deep. The response center notified search and rescue, who then went to the scene. At around 9:15 p.m. they found the hikers in good condition and assisted them back down the trail where they were reunited with family. The hikers are from Flagstaff and were well-prepared with the emergency device, extra food and water, blankets and a stove for warm food. It’s just a reminder that if you are going on a hike, especially in rugged country, to make sure you are prepared just in case you get lost or stuck along the way.
