Coconino County Search And Rescue Has A Busy Sunday At Sycamore Canyon

Coconino County Search and Rescue crews had a busy day in Sycamore Canyon Sunday. At around 12:30 p.m., rescue crews, along with US Forest Service Law Enforcement, Lifeline Ambulance, and Native Air Ambulance, responded to a call claiming a hiker had fallen at Sycamore Falls. Authorities say an adult man from Tempe was on a hike with a group, when he slipped and fell about 20 feet and suffered a head injury. The rest of the group witnessed it and immediately called 911. The hiker was in a tough area, so a DPS helicopter was called in to assess the scene and hoist a rescue crew member down to the injured hiker. At around 3:25 p.m. they were able to secure the hiker and transport him to a landing zone and into an ambulance, where he was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. Later in the day, Search and Rescue crews responded to multiple other cases in which other crews and agencies were sent out or were resolved prior to their arrival. Authorities remind hikers to be prepared with proper equipment, training, and safety knowledge.
