Coconino County Detention Facility Seeing High Numbers Of Positive COVID-19 Cases Among Inmates and Staff

The Coconino County Detention Facility is seeing a mass COVID-19 positive outbreak, with 44 inmates and 11 Detention Staff that are currently positive. The CCDF Medical Department began conducting COVID-19 testing on all inmates and staff Thursday. Since March of 2020, there have been 411 positive COVID cases between inmates and staff, leaving three hospitalized, but no reported deaths. Officials say the medical staff has given 254 vaccinations to inmates, which now brings the facility to an 80-percent vaccination rate. Due to the current rise in positive COVID-19 cases, CCDF will be limiting the population entering the facility. Temporarily, CCDF will not accept non-violent misdemeanor arrests as well as self-surrender court commits.
