The Coconino County Board of Supervisors have selected Dr. Tommy Lewis as the new superintendent of schools. Dr. Lewis replaces Dr. Risha VanderWey, who began serving as the superintendent for the Tuba City School District in August. Dr. Lewis is the Superintendent of Schools for the Navajo Nation Department of Dine’ Education, which he has held since 2015. He has over 30 years experience in education as the President of Dine’ College and Northwest Indian College in Washington. Lewis has also been the superintendent at Greyhills Academy High School. Lewis will start his new role November 18th and the term runs through December 2020. He will be up for election in 2020.
