A Chino Valley man was arrested Wednesday after breaking into his grandson’s residence and discharging a firearm in his direction. Chino Valley Police responded to the incident at around 9:03 a.m. in the 18-hundred block of Cindy Court. When officers got the scene, they met with the victim, a 25-year-old Chino Valley resident. He explained his grandfather, who lives on the same property as him, broke a window on the back door, entered his residence, pointed a firearm at him, and shot at his grandson as his grandson was running out of the residence. Officers on scene tried to make phone contact with the suspect, but were unsuccessful. Officers approached the residence, using their patrol vehicle as a shield and ordering the suspect to come out using a public address system. The suspect finally exited the residence and was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as 62-year-old Richard Bernal, who has since been booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm inside a residential structure and endangerment. No one was injured.
