The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of thunderstorms in Northern Arizona Friday. While this could mean a chance of some rain in areas, there’s more of a chance of dry lightning. Fire conditions are very high in the Kaibab and Coconino national forests and extreme in the Prescott National Forest, which means just one bolt of lightning can start the next wildfire. If you are traveling in Northern Arizona Friday and notice smoke in the forest, make sure you call 911 to report it. Until Mother Nature can bring rain to our area forests, lightning will be a big concern for forest officials. Also remember, we continue to be under Stage Two fire restrictions, which means no open flame fire at any campground. However, campers can use fire pits, BBQ’s and other propane fueled items, only if they have an on and off switch to them.
