CCSO Detectives Arrest An Eagar, Arizona Man In Connection With A 2003 Sexual Assault

Coconino County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 58-year-old Eagar, Arizona man for a sexual assault committed in 2003. Officials say David Louis Slade was identified as a suspect in the assault that was committed just outside of Flagstaff. The 18-year-old victim had reported an unknown person entered her home at night after she went to bed and held her against her will and sexually assaulted her. A DNA profile was taken from bodily fluid left at the scene, but the suspect was never identified. The same suspect was identified by DNA only as committing another sexual assault in Cedar City, Utah a year later. Both cases had gone unsolved with the suspect’s identity unknown. Coconino County authorities resubmitted the suspect DNA to the state crime lab. The lab was able to identify two relatives of the unknown suspect through the process. Detectives identified Slade and arrested him, with help from the Apache County Sheriff’s Office, in the Springerville, Eagar area. Slade made an appearance before a judge in Apache County and was released to the custody of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. He’s been booked into the Coconino County Jail on charges of kidnapping, burglary and sexual assault.
