CCSO Deputy Treats A Man Injured In A OHV Accident At Cinder Hills Recently

An off-highway vehicle accident trapped a person under the vehicle last Sunday in the Cinder Hills recreation area north of Doney Park. A Coconino County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the area at around 4:18 p.m. to find the victim was no longer trapped under the OHV, but had a significant injury to his left arm. The deputy applied a tourniquet to stop the excessive bleeding. The 25-year-old from Phoenix was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. It was later learned the tourniquet that was put on, likely saved the person’s life. The accident is under investigation. In 2020, the Sheriff’s Office responded to an unprecedented amount of visitation to public lands in Coconino County and OHV/ATV calls for service. There has been a large increase in OHV/ATV collisions and OHV/ATV fatalities. Officials remind people to drive safely when you are in an off-road vehicle. Deputies will be aggressively enforcing OHV laws and safety regulations throughout Coconino County.
