Camp Verde Marshal’s Arrest A Man Involved With Possible Human Smuggling

Camp Verde Marshal deputies arrested a person during a traffic stop on possible human smuggling charges Saturday. A deputy pulled over a Chevy Tahoe at around 9:40 p.m. because of a non-functioning headlight. The deputy immediately recognized the possibility of human smuggling when he saw ten people packed inside the vehicle. The driver identified himself as “Napolean” and got out of the vehicle. The driver told the deputy he forgot his wallet at work and didn’t remember his own birthday. A consent search resulted in finding the man’s wallet, along with a Mexican ID identifying him as 30-year-old Miguel Robiero. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were called to process nine people in the vehicle. One of the nine was found to be in possession of a forged Social Security card as well as a forged permanent visa card belonging to a U.S. citizen. The passenger was identified as 20-year-old Jasmin Alejandra Sanchez-Ortiz of Mexico. Miguel was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges of false reporting to law enforcement. Jasmin was booked on multiple charges including fraud and forgery. The case remains under investigation.
