Fire crews have completed burnout operations on the Newman Fire, burning south of Flagstaff. The fire has burned nearly five-thousand acres and was started by a lightning strike near Upper Lake Mary. Fire managers will start to release crews to other fires as the Newman Fire turns into monitor status. Monsoon storms are expected to increase over the next couple of days, which could extinguish the controlled fire.
