A man was arrested Friday morning after he tried to burglarize a Cordes Junction home and was scared off by the 98-year-old homeowner. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on East Valley View Lane at around 9:30 a.m. When they arrived the suspect was not at the scene. The victim was a 98-year-old woman who lives in the home alone, and is wheelchair bound. She told deputies the suspect tried to pry open a bedroom window. When he failed, he walked into the home through the front door. The woman yelled at him to leave, so he left. Deputies located the suspect, who has been identified as 47-year-old John Paul Pastian and a transient from Phoenix. He was arrested after a neighbor saw him trying to hide in some trees and tried to hide his appearance by removing clothes. Deputies interviewed Pastian and arrested him on charges of third degree burglary, first degree trespassing, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage. He is being held in the Yavapai County Jail.
