The Bureau of Land Management Phoenix District is planning a 100-acre prescribed burn in the Sycamore Mesa area, just northeast of Cordes Junction, over the next few months. Crews will be burning cut and piled juniper of the Agua Fria National Monument to reduce wildfire intensity and help reduce the spread of wildfires into communities. To ensure the safety of the public, crews will stay on the scene to monitor the area and will only be burning when weather conditions are right. No local road closures are expected, although area residents are being advised they may see light smoke. Crews were burning part of the project Wednesday.
