A new state legislator from District 7 has been selected. Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren was appointed by the Apache County Board of Supervisors Tuesday to serve in the Arizona House of Representatives representing the district. The 25-year-old Navajo woman fills the seat vacated by Arlando Teller, who resigned last month to become the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tribal Affairs in the Biden Administration. Blackwater-Nygren is a Stanford graduate, recently received a Juris Doctor from Arizona State University and also just passed the Arizona Bar Association exam. She lives in Red Mesa and will serve out Teller’s term, which ends in 2022.
