Arizona’s Senators Urge The Army Corps Of Engineers For Funding Of The Rio De Flag Project For Flagstaff

Both Arizona Senators are trying to light a fire under the Army Corps of Engineers regarding the Rio de Flag project in Flagstaff. Senators Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema sent a letter to the group, asking to include funding for the project in the Army Corps’s Fiscal Year 2020 work plan to “complete the project and ensure that downtown Flagstaff, Northern Arizona University, BNSF Railroad and the historic southside community are permanently protected from a catastrophic flood.” The senators went on to say “the federal government and the City of Flagstaff have already invested nearly $45-million into the Rio de Flag and delaying the project would be a waste of precious taxpayer dollars.” A group from Flagstaff, which included Mayor Coral Evans and councilmember Charlie Odegaard, traveled to Washington DC recently to meet with both senators and the Army Corps of Engineers.
