Arizona Snowbowl Announces Changes To The Agassiz Chairlift After This Season

Arizona Snowbowl will replace the current Agassiz Chairlift with a combination chair and gondola lift. Officials made the announcement Thursday and it will be Arizona’s first lift of its kind and one of the largest in North America. The original lift has been closed for over a month due to a mechanical malfunction. The part to the lift had to be specially made, however the lift could re-open this Sunday. The new lift, set to open in the fall, will feature a detachable high-speed chair lift with both six-person chairs and eight-person gondola cabins. The U.S. Forest Service recently approved the renovation. The Agassiz lift has been in service since the early 1960s and officials say they will have a ceremony on closing day before they start the renovation process.
