Another hiker has died in the Grand Canyon. National Park Service officials received a call reporting CPR in progress at around half-mile below the South Kaibab Trailhead. Bystanders initiated CPR and NPS EMS personnel responded to help, but the man was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 60-year-old William Smith of Oswego, Illinois. Smith was hiking out of the canyon after completing a day hike to Ooh Ahh Point, about a mile down from the South Kaibab Trail. The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. If you have plans to hike the canyon, make sure you are well equipped for the hot temperatures.
