A BNSF freight train derailed northeast of Holbrook Wednesday morning. Officials say one engine and 21 freight cars derailed near Adamana, which is near Holbrook. Cars were carrying mixed freight. Apache County Sheriff’s officials say a county road in the area was closed for a short time, but has reopened to traffic. There are no injuries reported and there was no danger to the public after the derailment. Westbound train traffic resumed later Wednesday afternoon. A passenger on an Amtrak train from Los Angeles to Albuquerque tells KAFF News they were forced to stop just outside Holbrook when the derailment happened. The train then went back to Winslow and passengers on the train were loaded on buses and taken to Albuquerque where another train awaits to take them the rest of the way. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
