An Elderly Overgaard Man Is In Jail After Allegedly Killing His Son

An 84-year-old Overgaard man is in jail after he apparently fatally shot his 58-year-old son Friday. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office says James Mellen Senior got into an argument with his son, James Mellen Junior at their home in Overgaard. Officials say the argument had been going on most of the day and that Mellen Junior went to bed to deescalate the situation. Deputies responded to the home at around 10 p.m. Friday to find Mellen Junior dead in his bed from a gunshot wound. Mellen Senior has been booked on one count of first degree murder and is being held at the Navajo County Jail in Holbrook. The case is under investigation.
