The Arizona Department of Transportation is reminding motorists and travelers of daytime delays on State Route 260 between Heber-Overgaard and Payson over the next five months. Delays of up to 30 minutes will occur due to crews improving the pavement, guardrails, drainage system, as well as re-striping the roadway and widening the shoulder lanes. The project will cost $24.9 million to improve the safety along a 21-mile stretch of roadway. Crews will be narrowing one mile of the roadway at a time from Old Rim Road to Aspen Lane. Road work will take place Mondays through Thursdays beginning August 8th at 5 a.m. and ending December 30th at 5 p.m. During work hours, flaggers will be guiding traffic, a 14-foot vehicle-width limit will be in place, and the speed limit will be reduced to 25-miles-per-hour. The project is expected to continue through the fall of 2024. ADOT reminds residents and travelers to slow down and use caution while traveling near crews and equipment.
