A small wildfire broke out on the south end of Upper Lake Mary Thursday. Coconino National Forest officials say the Walnut Fire started near the lake, just north of the Pinegrove Campground, with smoke going to the northeast. Crews were quick to the scene and contained the fire to an acre-and-a-half. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Remember: We are in fire season and campfires need to be put out where it’s cold to the touch. So far, the forest and surrounding areas have been free of fire restrictions, but some lands in western Arizona and parts of the Tonto National Forest are in Stage One fire restrictions.
